I recently worked on a collaboration with my good friend and colleague, Kate Anderson, for an event concept for AIGA Central PA. I'm going to try starting a design-related book club in the area – these tend to be successful in bigger cities, and I've also seen them based solely online, so we'll see how it goes. I've been a part of other book clubs (moreso fictional material) and I think it would be great to be able to get the community involved in this sort of thing in order to discuss ideas, theory, and practice.
Ideas for books to discuss:
- 99U's Manage Your Day-to-Day
- Timothy Goodman and Jessica Walsh's 40 Days of Dating
- Ellen Lupton's Graphic Design Thinking: Beyond Brainstorming
- Ed Catmull's Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration
I gave Kate some light guidelines of what I needed, but what I admire most about her style is her inventive and whimsical solutions. She provided me with sketches which I then vectorized and colored.
